Diamond Certificate – Your guarantee of quality
A diamond certificate is your peace of mind as a buyer. It is an independent document that describes a diamond's unique characteristics, including carat , color , clarity , cut and more. The certificate acts as a technical identification document and is essential for you to compare and understand the value of the stone.
At Diamant Banken, we only sell diamonds that are certified by recognized, international gemological institutes .
What is a diamond certificate?
A certificate is issued by an independent laboratory after the diamond has been analyzed by professional gemologists. It includes, among other things:
- Carat (weight in ct)
- Color
- Clarity
- Cut – applies to round brilliants
- Polish & symmetry
- Fluorescence
- Proportions & ratios
- Dimensions in millimeters
- Laser marked ID number
The certificate is not a valuation , but a scientific description of the diamond's properties.
At Diamant Banken, the certificate is displayed directly on the product page – along with 360° video and exact measurements.
The most reputable institutes: GIA & IGI
We only offer certificates from GIA and IGI – two of the world's most respected laboratories.
GIA - Global Reference Standard
- Founded in 1931 in the United States
- Strictest and most consistent grading system
- Uses the grading term Excellent as the highest grade for grinding
- Most common with natural diamonds
IGI – Leader in Lab Grown Diamonds
- Founded in 1975 in Belgium
- Uses the term Ideal as the highest grade of grinding
- Focus on modern technology and AI-based classification
- Most common in lab-grown diamonds
On the product page you will always see whether the diamond is certified by GIA or IGI – the choice is yours.
How do you read a certificate?
A diamond certificate contains many technical terms. Important fields to understand are:
- Shape & Cut – Examples: Round Brilliant, Cushion Modified
- Measurements – The diamond's measurements (e.g. 6.40 × 6.36 × 3.96 mm)
- Carat Weight – Weight in ct
- Colour Grade – E.g. G, D
- Clarity Grade – E.g. VS2, SI1
- Cut Grade – E.g. Excellent, Very Good (for round brilliant)
- Polish / Symmetry – Shows how well the grinding is done
- Fluorescence – None, Faint, Medium, Strong
You can also see a plot – a map of inclusions in the diamond.
Certification means security – not absolute perfection
A certificate shows objective data – but not everything. Two diamonds with the same grading can still look different depending on the location of the inclusions, color tone, play of light and proportions.
Therefore, we always supplement the certificate with:
- High-resolution 360° video
- Exact dimensions in millimeters
- Personal advice via chat or phone
- Full transparency about certificates and origin
Ethically controlled diamonds
All of our natural diamonds come from sources that follow established ethical guidelines, including the Kimberley Process which prevents the trade in conflict diamonds. We always strive to offer the highest possible quality with full traceability.
